12.24.07 Happy Holidays
Well the final NGAB is done and gone - hopefully you saw it. Light of Doom played a Christmas song with the Clark Brothers, then members of the band joined Dot Dot Dot, Tres Bien and DMHO on their Christmas songs. You could probably tell, we had a great time playing music with our friends. The Clark Brothers are the Next Great American Band and we're really happy for them. They are great guys and we hope to see them again soon.
For now, we're going to enjoy Christmas & New Years with our family and friends. We've already been back at Experience Studios working on some new songs. And as said, we're preparing for some upcoming shows. Be sure to check back regularly as we'll announce show dates here soon. Until then - may you all have the happiest of holidays!
12.17.07 Thanks To All Our Fans
As you know by now, Light of Doom finished 4th place in a competition that included over 4000 submissions. We were thrilled to have the opportunity to play for you all. And we're really thankful for all your support. The final NGAB is this Friday, 12/21, and we'll be doing one last song (for Christmas).
So what did you miss last Friday? We had 3 songs prepared: 1. "Ballroom Blitz" (NGAB chose that one) 2. "Flight of Icarus" 3. "Man in the Box" (Alice in Chains). The second 2 are songs we've been doing for a long time - we're sure you would have liked them!
Now that this is over, we're working on scheduling some performances in January around Southern California. Once we have some firm commitments, we'll let you know.
12.12.07 Top 4!!!!
Light of Doom made it to the Top 4 while saying goodbye to our friends Dot Dot Dot. But it was a tough night. Seems the judges didn't like what we were playing. We put a new spin on Queen's "We Will Rock You" and played our own "Matter of Time." Both pieces were heavily arranged by the show's music director - yet neither resonated with John, Sheila, or Dicko. We gave it our best, but after several takes, the energy was hard to bring - that's the take you saw on the show. Still we're excited to have made it this far! NOTE: the show has moved to 9pm/8c Friday on FOX.
12.6.07 Top 5!!!!! Last week, Light of Doom entered the elite Top 5 club. What an amazing experience it's been! We played the Rod Stewart song, "Infatuation," and really nailed it. We received overall good scores from the judges and they noted the extra care we put into the performance. Dillon and Daniel rocked, Lucas sang(!) and Mitch did what he does best.
This week we're on to Queen plus an original. Only 4 will make it - will we be one of them? It's up to you. PLEASE VOTE, VOTE, VOTE! It may come down to just a few votes between those who stay or go.
NOTE: the show has moved to 9pm/8c Friday on FOX.
11.26.07 It's A Gas Since the last news post, Light of Doom has played "Jailhouse Rock" and "Jumping Jack Flash" on NGAB. That means we're in the top 6! And the competition is getting tougher. Did you see Daniel jamming on the Stones up on the catwalk? Good thing he didn't do one of his signature scissor kicks - Lucas would've had to catch him!
Although we scored generally high marks with the judges, there was some call for improvement - and we're taking it to heart. This week we're rocking a Rod Stewart song. Will we still be in it after this? That depends on you - if you keep voting, we'll keep doing our part. FOX - Friday @ 8pm/7c - PLEASE KEEP VOTING!
11.12.07 Top 8! A quick recap: last Friday, Light of Doom rocked their way through the next round of cuts to make it into the top 8 bands. It didn't seem certain at first though - they made the band wait to be called until last. But once onstage, their version of Billy Joel's "The Stranger" was a highlight of the show. Judge John said that it was their best performance yet. Sheila was happy that they are listening to the judges' advice. Dicko said that even though our singer's voice needs maturing, he commits 100% - a lesson other singers should learn. High praise from Dicko ended the show on a high note!
Keep watching the show on FOX - Friday @ 8pm/7c - and PLEASE KEEP VOTING! It's up to you to be sure Light of Doom will make it to the finals.
11.7.07 Happy Birthday Dill Daddy!
We've been so busy lately that we forgot tomention in The Newz that Dillon's Birthday was last week on Friday, November 2nd. We were all watching The Next Great American Band and celebrating, but we forgot to tell all of you.
And about last week's show, we'd like to send out a public apology to Mr. Taupin. Sorry about the name goof, but we hoped we did Saturday Night's Alright (For Fighting) in a way that made you proud. It seemed to impress John and Sheila, but Dicko now believes we're part of a viral marketing campaign. The only thing we're promoting is METAL ROCK! And as long as you want to hear it - that's what we're gonna do.
Be sure to watch the show on FOX - Friday @ 8pm/7c - and KEEP VOTING!
10.27.07 First Show
Light of Doom rocked FOX's The Next Great American Band last night, and judging by the audience and judges reactions, gained a few new followers. It was theme night and the guys started with a cover of Bob Dylan's "All Along the Watchtower" then dedicated "Eye of the Storm" to San Diego's fire victims. John Rzeznik was complementary, Ian Dickson was cautionery and Sheila E., instructional. All in all, a great first showing! Now we wait to see if the band made the cut.
Make sure to tune in again on Friday Nov. 2 and VOTE FOR LIGHT OF DOOM!
Voting starts when the show ends and goes for 2 hours only - so don't miss your chance!
10.20.07 We're In!
In the aftermath of the premier, there are a lot of things to be hopeful for. John Rzeznik of the Goo Goo Dolls, drummer extraordinaire Sheila E. and Aussie “Idol” judge Ian Dickson sat in judgement.
"Prodigies or prank?" asked the show host, Dominic Bowden during the intro. After Dickson joked with them, the boys cranked it up. The judges expressions said it all! They were stunned with the brilliance of LOD's performance. It prompted Rznenik to to exclaim, "That was AWESOME!" and "I wish I could play guitar like that, you got stage presence, it's awesome." Sheila E. had this to say, "...it's evident that you guys are going to be amazing in 2 years, I can't even imagine...you guys are doing really well." Dickson chimed in with a funny rocker cloning analogy and "you are great" but then voiced his concerns that the band is a cute gimmick. Immediately Sheila E set him straight. And after an anxiety building TV moment, Rzeznik cast the final "yes" vote to send the band through. The blogs are heavy with support, check out: rickey.org, hitsusa.com, idol-mania.com
Tune in again next week and MAKE SURE TO VOTE!!!
10.19.07 Light of Doom Appears on The Next Great American Band
Fridays on FOX, 8 pm/9c: In the premier tonight, we'll see the band during their tryout on their way to becoming a finalist in this new reality show. The competition has been put together by the American Idol folks, but the rules are a little different. There's only show per week and 2 bands eliminated per show. The field will be tough, but LOD is giving it their all. They've already made it past over 2000 band entries in a competition that started back in July. Now it's time rock the house or go home. MAKE SURE TO VOTE!!!
